How Can severe Lower Abdominal Pain Be Treated?

I've been having pain in my stomach all day, since about 7am & its 630pm now. It comes & goes but it's a sharp, tightening feeling in my stomach / abdominal area. Any idea what could be the problem? It's in the center of my lower stomach / abdominal area. It basically feels like someone is squeezing my insides. It's Extremely painful.

Hello,
Thanks for using healthcaremagic.com
I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns.
The short description you have provided suggest the possibility of a condition called abdominal colic. It is nothing but a condition characterized by severe spasmodic pain in the abdomen caused by distention ,obstruction or inflammation.
We have to rule out other conditions like renal stones before commencing the treatment.
I suggest you to consult a general physician or a gastroenterologist and get the following things done:-
1.Antispasmodics like dicyclomine for pain.Analgesics like ibuprofen can also be tried.
2.Laxative like lactulose would provide symptomatic relief in most of the cases.
3.Basic blood and urine investigation can be done.
4.An ultrasound of the abdomen may be needed in some cases to rule out other conditions like renal stones and to make a definite diagnosis.
If symptoms persist despite all these additional investigation like CT scan and GI endoscopy might be needed.
You can try the following to prevent abdominal colic:-
1.Drink plenty of water and have healthy diet.
2.Include fiber rich food in your diet to prevent constipation and colic.

Hope I have answered your query.
Wishing you good health.

Regards.
Dr.Shinas
